How to make your 2027 calendar for India
- Choose the holidays. Gazetted holidays shades the 17 compulsory holidays of central government offices in Delhi and New Delhi. Gazetted and restricted holidays also lists the 32 restricted holidays in grey, without shading, because they are optional.
- Choose a layout. The whole year on one page, two pages (January to June and July to December), 4 or 3 months per page, or 12 monthly pages in landscape with large boxes to write in.
- Set the details. A4 is the default paper; A3, A5 and the US sizes are there too, in portrait or landscape. The week starts on Sunday by default; choose Monday under Week starts on if you prefer. Tick Saka dates or Hijri dates to add a second date in small figures in each box. You can also pick one of seven colour themes, black and white, large print or ink saver, week numbers, and an optional title such as a family, school or office name.
- Select Download PDF. The PDF is made in your browser in a second or two. Nothing is uploaded, and your entries are not saved or sent. Print opens the same PDF in a new tab instead.
The preview on this page is drawn by the same layout as the PDF, so what you see is what prints. Each gazetted holiday is shaded on its day and listed under its month. Saturdays and Sundays are shaded lightly, as central government offices work a five-day week.

Holidays outside Delhi and in the states
India has no single national list of public holidays. Central Government offices follow the yearly DoPT list: the holidays below are those of the administrative offices in Delhi and New Delhi. Offices in other states keep 14 compulsory holidays and add 3 chosen in each state capital, and each state government declares its own holidays.
The memorandum names the 14 holidays that every central government administrative office keeps: Republic Day, Independence Day, Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday, Buddha Purnima, Christmas Day, Dussehra (Vijaya Dashmi), Diwali (Deepavali), Good Friday, Guru Nanak's Birthday, Id-ul-Fitr, Id-ul-Zuha, Mahavir Jayanti, Muharram and Prophet Mohammad's Birthday (Id-e-Milad). The other 3 are chosen from a list of 12 (such as Holi, Janmashtami, Ram Navami, Maha Shivratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Makar Sankranti, Rath Yatra, Onam and Pongal): for Delhi, DoPT chose Holi, Ram Navami and Janmashtami (Vaishnav).
Offices in a state capital and the rest of that state use the list of the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee there, so their 3 extra holidays can differ. State government offices, schools and private employers follow the holidays declared by their state government. Industrial, commercial and trading establishments of the Central Government may keep up to 16 holidays a year, always including Republic Day, Independence Day and Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday.
This calendar prints the Delhi and New Delhi list. If you are in another state, add your own holidays under Your own events, picture and font, and they are printed in their day boxes.
Are bank holidays the same?
No. The memorandum says that for banks "the holidays shall be regulated in terms of the extant instructions issued by the Department of Financial Services". Bank holidays are declared state by state under the Negotiable Instruments Act, and the Reserve Bank of India publishes them on its Holidays page. On 15 October 2026 that page offered years up to 2026 only, so the 2027 bank holidays are not out yet and are not on this calendar. The RBI page also says that all scheduled and non-scheduled banks close on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
Saka dates: the Indian National Calendar
Tick Saka dates to print the date of the Indian National Calendar in small figures in each day's box, and the Saka months under each month's name. It is the date printed beside the Gregorian date in official documents such as the DoPT holiday lists. It was introduced from 22 March 1957, which was 1 Chaitra 1879 Saka Era, and it keeps a fixed link with the Gregorian calendar.
- New year: 1 Chaitra is 22 March, or 21 March in a leap year.
- Months: Chaitra has 30 days (31 in a leap year), Vaisakha to Bhadra have 31 days each, and Asvina to Phalguna 30 days each.
- Year number: the Saka year is the Gregorian year minus 78 from 1 Chaitra, and minus 79 before it. A Saka year is a leap year when the Gregorian year it starts in is one.
So 1 January 2027 is 11 Pausha 1948, and Saka year 1949 begins on Monday 22 March 2027. The months that begin in 2027:
| Saka month | Begins on | Length |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Magha 1948 | Thursday 21 January 2027 | 30 days |
| 1 Phalguna 1948 | Saturday 20 February 2027 | 30 days |
| 1 Chaitra 1949 | Monday 22 March 2027 | 30 days |
| 1 Vaisakha 1949 | Wednesday 21 April 2027 | 31 days |
| 1 Jyaishtha 1949 | Saturday 22 May 2027 | 31 days |
| 1 Ashadha 1949 | Tuesday 22 June 2027 | 31 days |
| 1 Sravana 1949 | Friday 23 July 2027 | 31 days |
| 1 Bhadra 1949 | Monday 23 August 2027 | 31 days |
| 1 Asvina 1949 | Thursday 23 September 2027 | 30 days |
| 1 Kartika 1949 | Saturday 23 October 2027 | 30 days |
| 1 Agrahayana 1949 | Monday 22 November 2027 | 30 days |
| 1 Pausha 1949 | Wednesday 22 December 2027 | 30 days |
The calendar works these dates out from the rules of the Positional Astronomy Centre of the India Meteorological Department, and they match the Saka dates printed in the DoPT holiday list for 2027. Saka dates follow the Indian National Calendar (in use since 22 March 1957): 1 Chaitra falls on 22 March, or 21 March in a leap year. Saka and Hijri dates use the same small figures, so you can print one or the other.
Hijri dates on the calendar
Tick Hijri dates to add the Islamic date in small figures in each box and the Hijri months under each month's name. Your browser works them out with the Umm al-Qura calendar. Hijri dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar; local moon sighting can differ by a day.
With the option on, the start of Ramadan and the two Eids are added as expected dates. By the Umm al-Qura calendar, Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 and Eid al-Adha on Sunday 16 May 2027, a day before the Indian holidays on Wednesday 10 March 2027 and Monday 17 May 2027. That is normal: in India the dates follow the moon as seen in India, so the shaded holiday is the one to plan by.
How to print at actual size
The calendar has margins of at least half an inch (12.7 mm) on every side, because most home printers cannot print right to the edge. In the print dialog choose the same paper as the calendar (A4 unless you changed it) and set Scale to 100% or Actual size. Turn off "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit", which change the size of the boxes and the margins.
Questions and answers
How many gazetted holidays are there in 2027?
17, for central government offices in Delhi and New Delhi, by the DoPT office memorandum of 16 July 2026. 6 of them fall on a Saturday or Sunday and are not moved to a weekday.
When is Diwali 2027?
The central government holiday for Diwali (Deepavali) is on Friday 29 October 2027 (Kartika 7 in the Saka calendar). The memorandum allows offices in states that keep Naraka Chaturdasi as their only Diwali holiday to close on that day instead.
What is the difference between gazetted and restricted holidays?
Gazetted holidays are compulsory: central government offices close. Restricted holidays are optional: offices stay open and each employee may take any 2 of the 32 on the list.
Does this calendar show my state's holidays?
No. It shows the central government list for Delhi and New Delhi. Each state declares its own holidays, and central government offices in a state add 3 holidays chosen there. You can add your own holidays as events under Your own events before you print.
Are bank holidays for 2027 included?
No. Banks follow separate state-wise lists published by the Reserve Bank of India, and the 2027 lists were not published when we checked on 15 October 2026. Banks also close on the second and fourth Saturdays.
Why does the week start on Sunday?
Sunday is our default for this calendar. Choose Monday under Week starts on and the whole calendar, including the PDF, starts each week on Monday.
What is the Saka calendar?
The Indian National Calendar, in official use since 22 March 1957. Its year starts on 1 Chaitra, which is 22 March, or 21 March in a leap year, and 2027 runs from 11 Pausha 1948 to 10 Pausha 1949.
Can I print the 2028 calendar for India?
Not with holidays yet. DoPT published the 2026 and 2027 lists in July of the year before. Until then a 2028 calendar prints without India holidays and says so on the page.
Is my calendar saved or uploaded anywhere?
No. The calendar and the PDF are made in your browser on your own device. Your options and title are not saved or sent.
