How to make your 2027 calendar
- Choose your nation. England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have different bank holidays, so the calendar shades the right days for the one you pick.
- Choose a layout. The whole year on one page, two pages (January to June and July to December), or 12 monthly pages in landscape with large boxes to write in.
- Set the details. The paper size (A4, A3 or A5, or US Letter, Legal, Tabloid and Half Letter) in portrait or landscape, Monday or Sunday as the first day of the week, ISO week numbers, one of seven colour themes or black and white, and an optional title such as a family name or a team.
- Select Download PDF. The PDF is made in your browser in a second or two. Nothing is uploaded, and your entries are not saved or sent. Print opens the same PDF in a new tab instead.
The preview on this page is drawn by the same layout as the PDF, so what you see is what prints. Each bank holiday is shaded on its day and listed under its month, with substitute days labelled as GOV.UK labels them. Black and white uses light grey shading so the calendar prints well on any home printer. Text and boxes are sized for the paper you choose: bigger on A3 for a wall planner, and still readable on A5 for a diary or binder.
2027 UK bank holidays by nation

Christmas Day 2027 is a Saturday and Boxing Day a Sunday, so the bank holidays move to the next weekdays. GOV.UK explains the rule like this:
If a bank holiday is on a weekend, a 'substitute' weekday becomes a bank holiday, normally the following Monday.GOV.UK, UK bank holidays
The year after is already published too: New Year's Day 2028 is a Saturday, so the bank holiday is Monday 3 January 2028 in all three nations, and Scotland also has Tuesday 4 January 2028 for 2nd January.
How to print at actual size
The calendar has margins of at least half an inch (12.7 mm) on every side, because most home printers cannot print right to the edge of the paper. To keep those margins, print the PDF without any scaling:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader: in the Print dialog, under Page Sizing and Handling, choose Actual size. Adobe's help says Fit reduces or enlarges each page to fit the printable area, so the calendar and its margins come out a different size.
- Other PDF viewers and browsers: set Scale to 100% and turn off "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit".
- Paper size: pick the same paper in the print dialog as in the calendar (A4, A3, A5 or a US size). The PDF also asks viewers to print without scaling, though not every viewer follows that setting.
A US Letter calendar printed on A4 paper at 100% still fits, with slightly narrower side margins. An A4 calendar printed on Letter paper does not: A4 is 17.6 mm taller, so the top and bottom are cut off. Make the calendar for the paper in your printer.
Week numbers explained (ISO 8601)
The small numbers in the week column are ISO 8601 week numbers, the system used across the UK and Europe for planners, rotas and business. Weeks run from Monday to Sunday, and week 1 is the week that contains the year's first Thursday, which is the same as the week that contains 4 January.
1 January 2027 is a Friday, so Friday 1 to Sunday 3 January 2027 still belong to week 53 of 2026. Week 1 of 2027 starts on Monday 4 January, and 2027 has 52 weeks: week 52 ends on Sunday 2 January 2028.
If you choose Sunday as the first day of the week, each row still shows the ISO week number of its Monday.
Hijri dates on the calendar
Tick Hijri dates to add the Islamic date in small figures in each day's box, and the Hijri months under each month's name. The dates are worked out by your own browser using the Umm al-Qura calendar, the calculated calendar of Saudi Arabia. Hijri dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar; local moon sighting can differ by a day. The same note is printed at the foot of the calendar.
With the option on, the calendar also lists the start of Ramadan and the two Eids as expected dates. By the Umm al-Qura calendar, Ramadan 1448 is expected to start on Monday 8 February 2027, Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 March 2027 and Eid al-Adha on Sunday 16 May 2027. These are not UK bank holidays, so they are not shaded. Please follow your local mosque or Islamic authority for the actual dates.
Questions and answers
How many bank holidays are there in the UK in 2027?
England and Wales have 8, Scotland has 9 and Northern Ireland has 10, according to GOV.UK. Scotland has 2nd January, St Andrew's Day and an earlier summer bank holiday but no Easter Monday; Northern Ireland adds St Patrick's Day and the Battle of the Boyne.
Why are 27 and 28 December 2027 bank holidays?
Christmas Day 2027 falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on a Sunday. When a bank holiday falls at the weekend, a substitute weekday becomes the bank holiday, so they move to Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December.
Is Easter Monday a bank holiday in Scotland?
No. Easter Monday is not on Scotland's list of bank holidays. In 2027 Scotland has Good Friday, Friday 26 March, but not Easter Monday, Monday 29 March.
Will the calendar print on US Letter paper?
Yes. Choose US Letter under Paper size and the PDF is drawn at 8.5 by 11 inches with the same half-inch margins. US and Canadian browsers start on Letter; everyone else starts on A4. A3, A5, US Legal, Tabloid and Half Letter are there too.
Can I print the calendar on A3 or A5?
Yes. Choose A3 for a wall planner or A5 for a diary or binder. Each size is drawn natively, not stretched, and the text is sized to suit the paper, so A5 stays readable.
Does the calendar start on Monday?
Yes, by default, as most UK calendars and ISO 8601 week numbers do. You can switch it to Sunday under Week starts on.
Is my calendar saved or uploaded anywhere?
No. The calendar and the PDF are made in your browser on your own device. Your options and title are not saved or sent, so if you reload the page you start again from the defaults.
Can I show Islamic dates on the calendar?
Yes. Tick Hijri dates to add Umm al-Qura dates and the expected start of Ramadan and the two Eids. Local moon sighting can differ by a day, so check the dates with your local mosque.
